The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in implementing video review technology.
Replay systems are set to arrive at The Championships this year.
Competitors will gain the option to question specific rulings from the official, following the protocol currently in operation at each of the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
This innovation will be operational on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This step arrives only a year after the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Players will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the official to review specific decisions, such as:
- Whether a ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a ball touched an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
- Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a rally.
Notably, there is an unlimited number on the amount of challenges a competitor can request.
Practical Application
An illustrative incident occurred in Indian Wells recently, where a top player initiated the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a tough call for the umpire, but thought his opponent had "played the rules quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, granting the rally to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its tournaments.
Further Updates
A further innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This addresses instances where the crowd have occasionally been uncertain if a shot was out or in.
Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
